Organizing Your Elvis Tribute Records And Other Memorabilia

By Jerri Perry

Collecting can be fun and rewarding, but it can also create a lot of unnecessary clutter. When you live in a limited space, this is even more true. Whether you collect Elvis tribute records, Star Wars action figures, or something else, things can quickly pile up.

Whatever your particular collecting preference, these clutter problems may occur. Whether you have a purposeful collection, such as vintage action figures, or an accidental one, such as the pile of magazines from the subscription you never signed up for in the first place, it can be easy to suddenly wind up with more stuff than you have the space to deal with.

We have all see the tv show Hoarders, and no one wants to become one of those people. When other people, especially those whom you are dating, enter your home, they are looking for signs of your personality. While it is good to have your interests on display, you want to be sure that it is evident that you take measures to keep things somewhat organized. Here are a few tips for doing that.

1. Throw stuff away. You need to have a brutal attitude about this. You may love the items in your collection, but there must be a few things that or damaged or somehow otherwise diminished in value. Look through your collection and figure out what things it is time to part with.

2. Consider selling things. When you were a teenager, this might have seemed like sacrilege. But now, you probably have all of those Tori Amos songs on your iPod or stored in your computer. Do you really still need the cd singles? Consider putting them up for sale on eBay. You can make some money at the same time you create more space in your home.

3. Store things away. You might not be able to find a significant amount of stuff you are willing to throw away or sell, but you can surely store some of it. It will still belong to you, and you can display it again once you have a larger living space to work with. For now, help yourself out and store it in order to reduce clutter.

4. Display things purposefully. Even if you follow all of the above tips, there may still be a few things you just need to have in your eyesight. Make sure that these things are displayed in a way that looks deliberate, rather than just lying around in random piles on the floor. This will help your living space to look neat and organized.

Do not let your stuff take over your life. A collection of rare books or Elvis tribute records, as cool as it may be, should not have that kind of power over a person. When you live in a small space, you have to minimize the amount of stuff you have in order to keep things neat. Make your home welcoming and organized by following the tips above.
