Artistic Expression Exhibiting Faith In Christian Modern Art Is Always Emotional

By Eric Jimenez

Your emotions may be strong when viewing a picture of the face of Christ. An artist uses his talent to express faith and devotion to God. It is pleasant to look at Christian Modern Art because it is beautiful, inspiring and many people are encouraged to pray when they see it.

Abstracts aside, the face and figure of Jesus Christ is one of the most prevalent subjects among these paintings. The works of Thomas Kinkade are collected by more people than any other Christian artist. The Lord is in his heart and displayed in his work.

Jesus is depicted with deep intense emotion showing in his eyes. He is painted hanging on the cross, both realistically and symbolically. Many other paintings show the cross using all colors and styles. One shows a blue cross made of small squares and rectangles on a red background. The background is also small squares and rectangles.

Crosses of gold are contrasted with multicolored backgrounds or outlined in blue. Poses of Jesus display His body language showing sorrow and defeat. In one series He is painted in red against a dark, black background.

The words of various bible verses are done in patterns of all kinds. They may be sad and monotone or bright cheery messages of hope. People can find one of these showing a favorite verse from the bible.

Many angels are painted by Christian artists. Some are majestic, wearing white robes and wings. Others are caricatures similar to childrens comic book figures. You can find an especially charming one showing a winged angel flying just above a man with a heavy bag to carry. The hands of the angel are on the bag to help the man carry it.

Sometimes startling outbursts of color jump out at the eye from the abstracts. Lovely stylized flowers may bloom with blossoms growing towards heaven. Dark, monochrome pictures show Jesus on the cross. Each one is a personal rendition of the painters grief over the crucifixion.

As a joy and inspiration, they can have a different meaning to each person looking at them. Many show circles and some see this as the circle of life from birth to death. Others may see this circular pattern as a symbol of eternity.

To the Christian, they have more meaning than the abstracts of secular artists, Jackson Pollock is one example. Mark Lawrence is the Christian artist famous for his technique called painting with light. It is a truly modern medium using a digital process to render a painting in a special way.
