How To Enter A Painting Art Competition

By Ryan Sullivan

Because of the many aspects to love about creating art, there are many different kinds of people who love to do it. Some people like the way it reduces stress and improves their fine motor skills, while others are more serious about the craft and are interested in creating a masterpiece that would hold up in a contest. That is why plenty of people like to enter their paintings into a painting art competition.

For artists who are just starting out, it can be incredibly difficult to find a way to hone their skills. Finding a place to exhibit beginner-level artwork is challenging enough in itself, and then there is the terrifying prospect of allowing people to see your work and inviting them to share their opinions on it. When there are trained and professional judges there to analyze and provide constructive criticism, this aspect can be made much less scary.

It can be hard to stand out in a big contest. The biggest thing to consider is whether a piece probably looks like a lot of the other paintings that will be entered. Having something that makes a piece different is a huge advantage.

Painters who specialize in a particular style have the best chances of winning if they enter into a contest that focuses on that specific style. This means that the painter will be able to play to his or her strengths instead of trying to adapt to a foreign style. While some artists are amazing and can paint whatever they want, others work best in one particular style.

It is hard to have access to very many contests when one is only looking at what is happening in their hometown. For those who don't live in big cities, these events can be hard to come by. There are plenty of networks online that help people find contests all around the world.

For the more serious painters looking to win some money from their artwork, it is easy to check the details of a contest to see what the top prizes are. Since these are for more serious competitors, they usually require a fee to enter. There are numerous contests that offer cash prizes.

No one wants to have their prized piece of artwork damaged when being delivered to the contest or while it is on display. It is a good idea to look into insurance for any paintings being entered. This is often not very costly and worth it for the peace of mind.

A great way to get primed and ready for a competition is to speak with those who have won contests in the past. These are the people who know exactly what judges want to see. They can often be found online with a quick search.
