By Charles Richardson

Whether you are participating in a dance or a musical, it is critical that you put on stage makeup. Stage makeup kits for schools affect the public perception of your stage performance. When done well, your performance will be lively but if it is poorly done, you will appear as if you are ill.

Before applying makeup, make sure that your skin is clean. You should add a toner that will make your skin complexion even. At this point you should make sure that the toner you are using is alcohol free. This is because stage makeup usually dries the skin especially when exposed to the stage lights.

The foundation should be slightly darker than your skin color. To do this, you are supposed to start its application from your forehead as you move upwards towards your hairline. Then apply foundation to the entire face. If some conspicuous parts will not be covered by your performance costume, make sure you apply it to these areas so that you do not have a mask effect.

It is important that you accent your eyes using an eye shadow first. You should pick a shade that is light neutral. You are supposed to use it to put emphasize the brow bone. Then take a darker shade and use it to highlight the eyelids. Picking two shades that blend will ensure that there will be good blend where they meet. To achieve a dramatic look, line the top of your eyelids using a dark or brown shade.

You should then do accent to your eyes. Ensure you apply the eye shadow first. Use a lighter shade to highlight the brow bone then a slightly darker one for the eyelids. You should use colors that will well blend at the point at which they meet. You can opt for a dramatic look. This can be achieved by choosing a dark shade to line the top of the eyelids.

Lip lining should then follow your school make up regimen. Choose a lip liner whose color is more or less the same as the color of you lipstick. This is an important step because it prevents your lipstick from bleeding into your face when you sweat. You should then apply the lip color. You must consult the director on the color of your attire so that you know which color to apply on the lip.

You should then work to set your makeup. This is done by using a translucent powder that will hold your make up so that in case you sweat during the performance, the sweat will not wash it away. To do this effectively, you must use a brush to put on the right amount of powder to your face.

After putting on your stage make up, take a few steps from the mirror and take a general look at yourself. Your makeup should be slightly exaggerated because the stage lights will combat its dark shade. The audience will be looking at you from different angles and at different distance. Make sure that in whichever angle or distance the public sees you, they are able to see your expression while performing.
